The Thiruppavai, composed by Andal, describes her observance of a vrat akin to the “Karthiyayani” vrat. Beginning on the first day of Margazhi, she presents a new Pasuram each day throughout the month. The collection consists of thirty verses that together form the Thiruppavai text. Recitation of these verses is believed to invoke Lord Narayana’s blessings. The significance of this practice is particularly emphasized during the Margazhi month (mid-December to mid-January), which is also highlighted in the Bhagavad Gita where Lord Krishna proclaims, “Masaanaam Margaseershohum,” meaning “among the months, I am Margazhi.”
